Job Description
Position: Public Service Director
Department: Public Service
Reports to: Village Administrator
General Description:
The Public Service Director operates under the general supervision of the Village
Administrator and is responsible for various administrative managerial duties
as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Public Service
Department. The labor includes, but is not limited to, daily maintenance of the
Village’s infrastructure services, in addition to directing and supervising all
Public Service employees. This individual must perform or assist in a variety of
administrative tasks including planning, budgeting, purchasing, and report
preparation.
Job Duties:
• Street maintenance
• City storm and sanitary sewer operations
• Waterline maintenance and operations
• Swimming pool maintenance
• Park maintenance and landscape
• Maintain traffic signal lights
• Emergency response for snow and ice, flood, and severe weather mitigation
• Manages department budget
• Attends meetings and conferences as necessary. When assigned, attends
Village Council Meetings
• Reviews plans and specifications for construction projects
• Ensures that lower-level personnel comply with applicable occupational
health and safety standards
Environmental Factors:
The work environment includes the Public Works Office, City Hall Office, the
outdoors, and visits to residential properties and commercial businesses.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge in municipal public works such as planning, design,
maintenance, and construction
• Knowledge in principles of budget preparation and expenditure control
• Ability to create and plan long-term programs that will develop the growth
of the community
• Knowledge in Principles of Effective Management Skills
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge in safe work practices
• Effective computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of public works personnel
• Ability to analyze, organize, and direct the work of public works personnel
• Ability to analyze organizational and administrative problems, recommend
• Alternative courses of action, and provide leadership to others in
implementing such actions
• Maintain strong relationships with the Village officials, employees,
Contractors, the general public, and representatives of other agencies
• Experience in evaluating and training staff
• Valid Ohio Class B or above CDL
