POSITION DESCRIPTION

POLICE CHIEF

 

POSITION:               POLICE CHIEF

DEPARTMENT:       POLICE DEPARTMENT

REPORTS TO:         MAYOR

 

 

General Description:

The Police Chief works under the general supervision and direction of the Mayor and is responsible for providing leadership, management, and direction to the police department. The Police Chief is responsible for overseeing the operations of the police department, maintaining public safety, and ensuring the enforcement of laws within their jurisdiction. This position is subject to emergency call in as well as responsible for attending all Village special events.

 

Job Duties:

Essential duties of the Police Chief shall include planning, directing, managing, and supervising the administrative, operational, and financial activities of the police department as well as any other duties related this position.

The powers, duties, and responsibilities of the Police Chief shall be as provided by the ordinances and resolutions of the Municipality and the general laws of Ohio, to the extent the general laws are not inconsistent with the Charter of the ordinances and resolutions of the Municipality.

The Police Chief shall possess a passion for public service and public safety while exhibiting exceptional leadership and people skills. The Police Chief shall present outstanding communication skills while being receptive to working with people to create and sustain an environment of trust and respect. The Police Chief shall be open to receiving constructive criticism and be able to work with and establish relationships with a broad range of groups, partners, elected officials, and colleagues.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

∙High school diploma or GED

∙OPATA Certification

∙Minimum five years experience as a law enforcement officer

∙Valid Driver’s License

 *Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
