Law Enforcement Telecommunicator
POSITION: LAW ENFORCEMENT TELECOMMUNICATOR
DEPARTMENT: NEW LEXINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT
REPORTS TO: POLICE CHIEF AND POLICE OPERATIONS MANAGER
General Description:
The New Lexington Police Department Communication Center is the primary dispatch center for the Village of New Lexington, focusing on police dispatching services. The Law Enforcement Telecommunicator is responsible for providing efficient and effective emergency communication and this critical role involves receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching appropriate personnel, and ensuring accurate documentation of incidents. This position requires working irregular hours which include nights, weekends, and holidays; shifts vary to meet the demands of the calls for service.
Job Duties:
- Receives and transmits radio communications and dispatches safety, services, and appropriate personnel as well as coordinating back up support as necessary. Safety of the public and personnel is of utmost importance.
- Operates a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and MARCS radio system
- Create and maintain detailed logs, incident reports, and records of all calls, dispatches, and related activities
- Ensure confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information and adhere to data protection protocols
- Provide support to law enforcement personnel in the field, including assistance with accessing databases, verifying records, and providing information for officer safety
- Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, and other security systems, reporting any suspicious activity
- Maintains cleanliness of the Police Department to include sweeping, dusting, disinfecting, and trash removal
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent listening and comprehension skills
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
- Proficient computer skills
- Familiarity with geographical areas within the Village of New Lexington
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
