POSITION DESCRIPTION

POLICE OFFICER

 

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Police Officer is responsible for maintaining public safety, enforcing laws, preventing and investigating crimes, and promoting community engagement and trust. This position requires individuals who are committed to upholding the law, protecting citizens, and ensuring the overall well-being of the Village of New Lexington.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrol areas within the Village of New Lexington to maintain public safety and order
  • Respond to emergency calls, accidents, and incidents promptly and take appropriate action
  • Enforce local, state, and federal laws by issuing citations, making arrests, and testifying in court
  • Interview witnesses, collect evidence, and prepare detailed reports
  • Work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and community organizations
  • Maintain physical fitness and proficiency in the use of firearms and other law enforcement equipment
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, professional ethics, and legal standards
  • Special projects, assignments, and investigations as assigned

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • OPATA Certification
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound judgments in challenging situations
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
